MyDeskFriend Combines Facebook With a Little Robotic Penguin [Robot]

Filed under: Computer Technology, Technology News — admin @ 3:20 pm

Arimaz’s MyDeskFriend is a little penguin that rolls around your desk, has 5 moods, responds to physical input and connects to Facebook. I kinda want one.

It launches in September for just $99, and is meant to be a social media companion. Your friends can interact with it via your Facebook page, and it can read messages off of Facebook to you. Its eyes reflect its mood, and will memorize 10-15 short vocal commands.

It doesn’t actually seem to do much, but it is kind of a neat toy for office workers and people who are in front of their computers all day. [MyDeskFriend via GetRobo via Technabob]

Retrolicious Olympus E-P1 Micro Four Thirds Camera Unboxed, Goosed in UK [Digital Cameras]

Filed under: Computer Technology, Technology News — admin @ 12:20 pm

The wonderfully retro Olympus E-P1, recently fondled by the hands of beautiful Chinese models, has been subsequently unboxed and fondled by the rough hands of some lucky guy in the U.K.

We get a good look at the interchangeable lenses, the rig itself, as well as a shot of the pretty pedestrian box. As we’ve said before, it’s what’s inside that counts with this sexy beast. [Recently Reviewed via Engadget]

Computer-Controlled Air Compressor Alarm Clock Pounds Your Head Into Consciousness [Beds]

Filed under: Computer Technology, Technology News — admin @ 12:20 pm

The inventor of this head-pounding “alarm clock” is admittedly a bit quirky (”Hi Mom!” cliche, check!), but I’ll be damned if I don’t give him kudos for inventing the most violent, aggressive alarm clock I’ve ever seen.

Sadly, the source site doesn’t allow embedding, so I’ve assembled a series of screen grabs to try and capture the raw violence I saw in the original video. The same video, coincidentally, you can catch in the accompanying link. [TechEblog]

Our Augmented Reality Future [Augmented Reality]

Filed under: Computer Technology, Technology News — admin @ 12:20 pm

io9 was busy this weekend detailing detailing how the future might look as “augmented reality” takes off in the next decade or so. Personally, I can’t wait for the information overload. It’s just too bad spam will follow us into 2020. [io9]

Palm Pre’s Mojo SDK Leaked: Bring on the Apps [Palm]

Filed under: Computer Technology, Technology News — admin @ 9:00 am

Palm’s Mojo devkit has leaked to the web ahead of schedule—they had announced it would arrive in late summer, and instead developers are treated to the SDK right now.

Mojo is of the utmost importance to Palm: Without a huge and vibrant developer scene churning out tons of apps, the Pre might not excel as a platform enough to challenge the iPhone. The SDK that leaked is a beta, and some are warning potential developers to treat this version as a guide rather than a final release. Now the fun really begins—it’s time to see what the Pre (and Pre community) can do. [PreInsiders, Thanks Pat!]
